Who would have thought 75 years ago that Securiton would be one of the leading international providers of alarm and security systems today? What began on the kitchen table at the director’s home has now grown into a company with 33 locations around the world and more than 770 employees. We dive into the Securiton archive and get to the bottom of our history. Join us on this journey through time or take a look into the future. Securiton AG was officially founded with its entry in the commercial register on 22 July 1948.
In 1950, a Securiton intrusion alarm system was installed in Ghana – the starting signal for many other export activities.
The first few years were characterised by convincing people and looking for suitable premises. Securiton’s first customers came from Western Switzerland.
With the creation of the Wächterzeitung, Securitas pools together the various sources of information in a magazine and gives a few pages to Securiton to present the emerging company.
The Signaphon and Telealarm are extremely versatile in use and are also of great economic importance.
One of the first interesting orders for Securiton of South Africa (Pty) Ltd. was to safeguard various exhibits in a world-famous exhibition dedicated to gold production.
For some time now, Securiton has been using ultrasound to protect rooms – the latest innovation in the field of intrusion protection.
Securiton takes part in the Muba for the 14th time in succession since 1952, showcasing its latest alarm systems for fires, intrusion, hold-ups and operational monitoring.
October will see Securiton leave Birkenstrasse and move into the new building on Alpenstrasse.
Securiton has its own bank branch in the new building on Alpenstrasse. This serves as a model for Securiton’s intrusion and hold-up detectors.
Initially, Securiton was primarily known for its intrusion and hold-up alarm systems. At the same time, however, it also sold all kinds of fire detectors.
In the 1960s, the then PTT was looking for strong partners to operate and finance an alarm transmission service in Switzerland. Securiton AG and Cerberus AG (today Siemens Schweiz AG) accepted the challenge.
In order to test and demonstrate the suitability of different fire detectors for different types of fires, a fire test room was set up in our new building.
Securiton’s new seismic microphones skilfully detect any attempted break-in without false alarms.
A quarter of a century has passed and we are only just getting started. In its first 25 years, Securiton has had an eventful history.
After 10 years, space is at a premium at head office in Zollikofen. To combat this, office pavilion 1 is now being erected at impressive speed.
In order to expand its range in line with the market, the Group has acquired Contrafeu AG.
For decades, the Federal Republic of Germany has been Switzerland’s most important trading partner. A contract for sales representation was signed with Artur Schmidt in 1979.
Landshut Castle, located between Burgdorf and Solothurn, is the only moated castle in the canton of Bern. Securiton was commissioned by the canton to supply technical safety equipment here.
Thanks to the use of state-of-the-art electronic components – the microprocessor – numerous additional functions have been integrated into the control panel.
Securiton began installing numerous security systems at the CERN research centre in 1985.
A new warehouse is being built with a storage area linking to the current main building. Additional office space will also be created on the upper floor.
The SMS 5000 is a combined intrusion and hold-up alarm system. It is used to monitor a situation and then process the information, in addition to triggering the necessary measures.
The Securiton March was premiered on 9 September as part of a concert. The composer is Ernst Schmocker, deputy workshop manager at Securiton.
On 1 June 1989, Securiton assumed full responsibility for Ascom Hasler AG’s intrusion and hold-up alarm systems division.

In 1998, Securiton AG celebrates 50 years of success in the security branch.
The new Securiton mission statement issued to employees takes account of today’s challenges and forms the basis of the process management system.
Reliability, complexity and ease of use – the holy trinity of requirements for modern security systems is now also available for small and medium-sized alarm systems.
Changes and new appointments in senior management at the Securitas Group came into effect on 1 July 2001. The appointment of Patrick Yenni as the new Head of UB A&S is crucial for Securiton.
Securiton passed the audit in October 2001 and was awarded the new SQS certificate in line with ISO 9001:2000.
Securiton AG has become the new official supplier to the Swiss Armed Forces. Within the next three years, it will deliver eight UewSyst surveillance systems to the Armed Forces for object protection.
Securiton AG now becomes the competence centre for security and special fire detectors.
Art is valuable, especially if the artist’s name is Paul Klee. Helped by Securiton and Securitas, the famous painter’s works were transferred to the new exhibition centre without any problems.
After two years as Head of Sales Switzerland, Guido Portmann took over as CEO of Securiton on 1 January 2005.
The “Sicherheit 05” trade fair sees the launch of the new face of Securiton. The curtain is raised on a trend-setting market presence.
