2006 Accessing a strong future

Securiton AG and Bixi Systems AG from Eastern Switzerland have enjoyed a close cooperation for a long time. The Securitas Group now holds a majority stake in the company, which specialises in electronic access control and personnel time management.

As the saying goes, good things come to those who wait. In the case of the long-standing cooperation between Securiton and Bixi Systems, however, cooperation was good from the beginning and is now entering a new chapter. At the end of October, the two companies decided on the acquisition of a majority stake in Bixi Systems by the Securitas Group. With its 36 employees, Bixi Systems will continue to operate on the market as an independent company.

Successful company history

Bixi Systems AG has been operating as an independent company since 1992, focusing on access control and time management systems. Today, it has established itself as one of the leading providers in its market segment. The head office is located in Mels in the canton of St. Gallen, with offices in Zurich, Liestal and Lausanne. They also have an impressive customer base. The head offices of two of the three largest Swiss banks – Credit Suisse and Raiffeisenbank – are both equipped with an access system from Bixi Systems. This is in addition to one-third of all cantonal banks, various regional banks and insurance companies, a nuclear power plant, the Liechtenstein State Administration and numerous other customers from public administration, transport and industry. Around 300,000 employees in around 500 companies and their branches throughout Switzerland use a Bixi Systems badge every day.

Intelligent products

The main focus of Bixi Systems is on the distribution and development of software and hardware for complex access control and time management systems. The starting point is the Galaxy system, a software solution based on the Windows standard. “TIME” records employee working hours using a badge reader. “PLAN” enables efficient deployment planning and “WORK” allows working hours to be allocated to different projects. With the “PASS” system, Bixi Systems ensures individual access control at a company and protects against unauthorised access. However, without the right hardware, these systems would not reach their full potential.

The corresponding recording and reading terminals (“Libra”, “Carina” and “Sirius”) are produced by partner companies on behalf of Bixi.

Shared benefits

The merger benefits both the companies and their customers. It makes it possible to fully utilise the high level of innovation and development expertise at Bixi Systems. The nationwide network of Securiton offices also boosts its market presence. With its stake in Bixi Systems, the Securitas Group is assuming a leading role in the Swiss market among providers of access control systems. For the Group, this means an important expansion of its offering in the Alarm and Security Systems division. Both companies can benefit from the joint know-how in the security industry and utilise a comprehensive range of security solutions.
